PLAYLIST #2 September 2023
There is just something about fall and classic rock. The last few days have been rainy but also quite autumnal around here – a perfect time to share this rock forward playlist.
Not all playlists will have a Development theme but as I put this one together I found some cheeky comparisons. Enjoy!
Doctor My Eyes – Jackson Browne (1972)
This one goes out to everyone who has been feeling the nonprofit dog years HARD lately.
You’re No Good – Linda Ronstadt (1974)
I am of the mind that there is no such thing as a dream job. But sometimes you get to a place and the vibes are SO off. Do I need a Patreon to share some of my spicier stories? Note: this is a cover of a 1963 original recorded by Dee Dee Warwick of the legendary Warwick/Houston family, you may have heard of them.
Venus – Shocking Blue (1969)
YES, this is technically late 60s but this song RULES. I am willing to make an exception.
Dancing in the Moonlight – Thin Lizzy (1977)
Another song that literally just rocks. We all know Boys Are Back In Town but these lads have had a few bops.
Tusk – Fleetwood Mac (1979)
A song about a band of couples roiling with jealousy, addiction, and the perils of fame? Or a Development Department at odds with each other and executive leadership about key goals and expectations? You decide! You could also sub in a particularly mismatched Board of Directors.
Barracuda – Heart (1977)
If we’re talking workplace “Crazy on You” might be better. But if I can only pick one Heart song it will ALWAYS be this one. And come to think of it, this is the song that would be playing when you cinematically run into an old boss or colleague that made your life hell at one point.
Desperado – The Eagles (1973)
Now, I had a choice for this one - The Eagles or Linda. I love both but there was a more fitting Linda song and The Eagles version is less romantic, more “c’mon on man”. This one goes out to all my job hoppers…may we one day come down from the fences.
Right Place Wrong Time – Dr. John (1973)
This is the song that inspired the entire playlist. Have you ever stumbled upon a funding opportunity that is so tempting but you know the timing is off? It’s OK to say right place, wrong time. Don’t give into scarcity mindset and start the right trip in the wrong car.
Don’t Bring Me Down – Electric Light Orchestra (1979)
I grew up in a big ELO family. We even saw them at Madison Square Garden a few years ago for my dad’s birthday. There are so many classics to choose from but this one goes out to everyone starting their End of Year forecasts and November Board Reports. You got this!
Band on the Run – Wings (1973)
Had to end with one that actually mentions donating to a charity. Thanks, Paul!
As always, all Midnight Fundraiser playlists are road tested throughout multiple work days for guaranteed satisfaction. ROCK ON! 🤘🍂
