Have you ever wanted to do something so bad…
you just don’t do it?
Honestly, I don’t think this problem is unique to me – but – it is a lonely one. I’ve wanted to create a blog like this for years. A little corner of the world where I can rant, rave, and hopefully create space for others.
When people react to my job they either tell me I’m a saint or they could never ask people for money (those are two separate posts, if not a series). They also make it sound like fundraisers are rare beings…don’t see that everyday! Which usually isn’t the case.
The practice of fundraising follows us throughout our lives. Some of our most beloved institutions and cultural touchpoints involve raising money. Whether you’re a member of a congregation or an atheist who likes Thin Mints, it’s all around us.
And it is nothing new. Fundraising is a sacred act that has been passed down through the generations. I often joke that this work is the real “oldest profession” - but I think that’s good enough to be its own post so I’ll stop there.
Another thing that is hard to do even though it seems simple? Knowing when to shut up. So instead of spilling another vial of virtual ink pontificating on the power and glory of fundraising…
I’ll leave you with the pitch:
Midnight Fundraiser is a blog, that will hopefully have weekly, or at least…consistent posts about fundraising from a millennial perspective. Hopefully a refreshing space for fundraisers and the fundraising curious.
OK, I’ll stop. After all, if I hold myself to this weekly-ish goal, I should probably save my words.
Until next time. 🌟🌙
